Fashion revolves. I’m certain that you’d agree with me that trends that are referred to as ‘old’ at particular times could become the next big thing just the fashion season after, dungarees and double denim would have been a fail a couple of seasons ago, but they’re an enormous trend right now, so, fashion itself, has its essence dating more backwards than forwards, revisiting old trends, and recreating them with a contemporary vibe, improved fabrics, better finishing, detailing and definitely styling is the creativity that makes fashion unique.
The images in this editorial represents a facet of retrospective Lagos culture and style, from the Edgy Outfit (By Tai Lore) to the Distinct Vintage Scenery and Photography (By Manny Jefferson)
I see the outfit, which is off the “Tai Lore” SS16 Eko Campaign as edgy for quite a number of reasons, from the bold yellow color to the badges on either side of the suit jacket.
Edgy is one of those fashion words that gets thrown around with reckless abandon. The truth is, well, “edgy” has more than one definition. It exists on a spectrum that is completely relative to the person navigating it. To me, an edgy style means thinking ahead of the curve and wearing something atypically and there aren’t many better ways to infuse a contemporary vibe into a Vintage Lagos scenery than with an outfit of the sort.
As much as there are skylines and big beautiful buildings in Lagos, which give an amazing scenery for fashion photography actually (well if you’re lucky enough to escape the usual area boys harassment), Lagos is also blessed with amazing vintage scenery with so much art embodied.
Maybe they’re the places we drive past everyday, or maybe they’re the ones we see once in a while, sometimes, we just have to stop for a second to appreciate the aesthetics. A city that we have to learn to love inspite of itself. A city blessed with dynamic cultures and the spirit of it’s people, with vibrance, with color and with opportunities.
